Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman Phone

[Mobile World Congress] 8 megapixels is the new pink where cell phones are concerned – Sony Ericsson goes one up on their rivals (what with the Samsung Memoir having been released) with the W995 Walkman cell phone, featuring an 8.1 megapixel camera. Sure, the additional 0.1 megapixels won’t make that much of a difference, but psychologically between two fanboys of respective camps, it matters. The W995 Walkman phone might sound as if it is more music-centric, but coupled with a powerful camera, it is touted by the folks at Sony Ericsson to offer the “best in class video and sharing capabilities to offer the most complete communication entertainment package to date.” Features of the W995 Walkman include :-

  • Media Go application for seamless transfer of data between platforms
  • 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus
  • Photo flash and face detection
  • Built-in stand
  • Clear stereo and bass speakers
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UTMS/HSPA 900/2100
  • 2.6″ display
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • Memory Stick Micro slot
  • aGPS and Google Maps support

There is no word on how much it costs, but the W995 will be available in selected markets from Q2 in Progressive Black, Cosmic Silver and Energetic Red colors. As for Media Go, this application will be released in all markets where the W995 is launched and will come in 15 different languages for a greater appeal. [Press Release]
