Sony PS3s To Get 45nm Cell Processor
Posted on Feb 5, 09 07:07 PM PDT

Sony Europe's President David Reevers stated that Sony is currently working on implementing 45nm Cell processors into their PS3s sometime in the middle of this year onwards. Some off the benefits from this move are painfully obvious, including reducing the overall production cost for a PS3 which could go a long way in helping Sony revive its fortunes in the long run. After all, they're still losing money on each console sold, and that alone prevents them from getting involved in a price war with its other rivals, Microsoft and Nintendo (whether Sony acknowledges Nintendo as a rival or not is another can of worms). A smaller nanometer processor also translates to lower power consumption with less heat, but could this move prove to be a little too late for Sony?
