ZTE Coral 200 Eco Phone
Posted on Feb 18, 09 10:26 PM PDT

What better way to make cell phones work in rural areas where electricity is hard to come by than to include a built-in solar panel? ZTE of China might not be of the same standing as Samsung or LG when it comes to solar-powered handsets, but hats off to them for making it cheap. Let's just hope that the batteries won't explode halfway while they're baking in the sun. The ZTE Coral 200 Eco Phone will be first available from Jamaican mobile carrier Digicel, and this is a no-frills entry-level candybar phone with a solar panel behind that keeps the batteries within juiced up all day long as long as there is sunlight. It will come with a color display, and should be out by June this year.
