Braille Could Make Its Way To Touchscreen Devices

Touchscreen devices seem to be all the rage these days, but unfortunately for the blind, they won't be able to enjoy all the goodness of the iPhone or HTC touch. Well, nothing beats human genius with a new method to represent Braille characters on a mobile device, paving the way to what could be a Braille-ready touchscreen phone. Jussi Rantala of the University of Tampere in Finland as well as fellow colleagues banded together, using a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet as their device of choice while installing a software which is able to represent a raised dot as a single pulse of intense vibration, while an absent dot is a longer vibration that comprises of several weaker pulses. This will definitely give the blind more options to "communicate" with the world around them.
