Florida Works On First Solar-Powered City In The World
Posted on Apr 15, 09 07:54 PM PDT

Florida is currently working hard to develop Babcock Ranch, a 17,000-acres-large community that will be completely powered by solar energy, thanks to its $300 million, 75-megawatt solar-powered generator. In addition, there will also be a Smart Grid built to power electric vehicles in the city itself. Construction on Babcock Ranch will only kick off sometime later this year, and the final product could potentially end up with 19,500 homes, 20,000 permanent jobs, 6 million square feet of retail/industrial space and 8,000 acres reserved for open space and greenway. The infrastructure might be there, but it remains to be seen who is going to populate Babcock Ranch when the time comes since electric vehicles aren't known for their cheap price.
