HiVision Netbook Unveiled

What kind of gadget can you get for $100 these days? Nothing too fancy we suspect, but what if we told you that you can actually bring home a functional netbook at that price - a new one to boot, and not a second hand model? You'll probably check your calendar to see whether April Fool's Day is over or not, but we jest not. Enter the HiVision netbook that retails for just $100, featuring the following :-

  • Ingenic JZ4740 32-bit 360MHz processor
  • 7" display at 800 x 480 resolution
  • 2GB flash memory
  • 128MB SDRAM
  • Two USB 1.1 ports
  • SD/MMC memory card slot
  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity
  • 3 hour battery life
  • Linux operating system

Pretty interesting for an extremely basic computing device on the go. It weighs just 650 grams and is able to run a bunch of productivity software including a PDF Viewer, an e-book reader, File Explorer, GQView (Image Gallery), Abi-Word, Gnumeric (Spreadsheet), Sylpheed 2.4.1 (Email), Pidgin (IM Chat), rgbPaint 0.8.7 (Paint), Recorder, Internet Browser, Text Writer and a Super Nintendo Emulator (!) among others.
