Palm To Artificially Short-Supply the Pre For Marketing Purposes?
Posted on Apr 29, 09 02:05 PM PDT

Analysts expect Palm to limit its Palm Pre stocks to artificially squeeze supply to generate more buzz around the launch, which is expected to happen right before the iPhone update launch. Around 375000 units on average are estimated to have been allocated for the launch.
If this is true, it’s really dumb. If the Pre is as good is it looks, Palm should sell as much as they can to get it out there in people’s hands. Happy customers are the best thing that Palm and Sprint could possibly have. Who cares if the product is in short supply? If it is good, it *will* be in short supply. If not, well... This is a make or break moment, so focus on the customers and the product, not on the buzz!
