Doom Resurrection Next Week on iPhone, Might Spark a New FPS Era
By Hubert Nguyen, Posted on Jun 10, 09 04:47 PM PDT

John Carmack's has dedicated a significant amount of time on programming for the iPhone. Doom Resurrection for iPhone should set the bar very high for 3d graphics on Apple's platform. In the past, J. Carmack said that “If you look at it in raw hardware horsepower, the iPhone should be better in performance than the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation Portable,”.
We're not sure that the iPhone (the 3G) beats the PSP in a raw computing fight, but I would not go against the Master himself without having poked the iPhone registers for a while, but we have yet to see this on an iPhone. What I do know is that the next-generation Doom for iPhone is critically important, beyond its game form. The 3D engine will be licensed, studied and maybe even go into the public domain at some point in time.
