Intel Acquires Wind River Systems For $884M

Intel is set to buy embedded software developer Wind River for $884M. If I remember correctly, Wind River has done a lot of work on Moblin, especially on the low-level Linux software, which is really the foundation for every other application that is built on the system. By acquiring Wind River, Intel can ensure that the system will be optimized for its Atom platform. This is also a great way to acquire more experts in the embedded field where Intel wants to dominate in the future. Up until now, only single-purpose Linux devices like the Tivo have been successful commercially. Netbooks have experienced a staggering rate of return.
