iPhone OS 3.0

There are 40,000,000 iPhones and iPod touches that are currently in the hands of users, sporting over 1 billion downloads from the App Store within 9 months. Talk about success! With such a huge potential user base, it is bigger than any other gaming console in the market right now, and Apple are showing faces of happy developers who have realized their dream (while making a quick buck on the side, of course) with their releases that have entertained people during their more boring moments in life. Let’s hope that the vaunted iPhone 3.0 OS update will cause a seismic shock that enables even more applications to perform video streaming via a 3G connection. So far we do know that over a hundred new features will be made available with this update, including the long awaited Cut and Paste functionality. Hooray! Undo support has also been included, alongside developer APIs and Cocoa Touch support for text.

Nice to know that this update will offer landscape keyboard support in the most crucial apps such as Mail, notes and messages. In addition, there is finally MMS support that ought to prop up the case for an iPhone – 2 years after the phone’s launch, LOL. iTunes will also let you rent and purchase movies over the iPhone for those who lead an extremely mobile lifestyle, and you can view your favorite TV shows, music videos and listen to someone droning your beloved book in audio format as long as there is a decent 3G connection.

Parental controls have been updated to be better, limiting their kids to G or PG-rated shows as well as Apps that fall within their little one’s age range. Guess kids can’t wait to grow up faster and get their own iPhone now, eh?

Yay! Tethering has finally been included, allowing you to use your iPhone 3G as a modem when connected via USB or Bluetooth. It will play nice on both Macs and PCs, and won’t require any prior applications to run.

Disappointingly, it boasts 22 carrier support in various countries, leaving out AT&T at launch. Can you believe it?!
