Noise Canceling Speakers Improve Mileage

Who would've thought that something like noice canceling speakers would increase fuel efficiency? Well, engineers who built the new 2010 Chevy Equinox employed active noise cancellation by including microphones embedded in the headliner to handle the low frequency noise (33-100Hz) emitted when the torque converter locks up due to new calibrations in the 2.4-liter direct injected four cylinder engine. These microphones will tune in for those frequencies, generating an opposite wave sound from the audio system to weed out the offending noise for a perfectly quiet ride, resulting in a one mpg improvement in fuel economy for the four cylinder Equinox. Neat, eh?
