Samsung Omnia Runs On Android
Posted on Jun 25, 09 11:16 PM PDT

Now this is blasphemy for purists, but others will take to this hack pretty kindly. Samsung's Omnia is now able to run the Android operating system despite being a Windows Mobile 6.1 handset in the first place. While the Omnia comes with a 3.2" WQVGA resistive touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, the porting team only managed to boot and load the kernel while attaining basic touchscreen support. The camera and phone functions will be inaccessible, and some of the hardware buttons are rendered unusable as well. Everything isn't fine and dandy since the touchscreen freezes from time to time, turning black or even displayin streaky text and various glitches, but we believe in due time things will get better.
