Posted on Jun 16, 09 04:32 PM PDT
Western Digital has jumped aboard the SSD bandwagon with its latest announcement concerning the SiliconDrive III product range that will see off the outgoing SiliconDrive II product set, bringing superior read/write speeds, increased capacities and offer mechanical scalability. According to WD, the SiliconDrive III range is meant for embedded system and data streaming applications, where part of its tasks is to handle multimedia content delivery systems and data centre media appliances. Devices that fall under this range include 2.5" Serial ATA (Sata) and parallel ATA (PATA) and 1.8" Micro Sata products, boasting native Sata 3Gb/s or ATA-7 interfaces with target read speeds of up to 100MB/s and write speeds up to 80MB/s. Capacities max out at 120GB (why not 128GB like all the others?).
