Solar UFO water purifier
Posted on Aug 21, 09 09:58 AM PDT

Engineers from NTT Facilities has come up with a couple of solar-powered, UFO-shaped floating water purifiers which will see action in the city’s canals and alongside the moat at Osaka Castle. These machines have been dubbed as Solar UFOs for their obvious shape, tipping the scales at a massive 3.4 tons each, measuring just 1.6 meters tall and 5 meters across. The day will allow its solar panels to capture as much sunlight as possible to convert all that energy into stored power, where it will work the machine’s filtration system that enables fresh oxygen to be pumped into the water while removing impurities. When dusk falls, a 1.3-kilowatt solar battery is able to last through the night by offering enough energy to power the LED lamps which lining the edges of the floating craft. Capable of offering up to 9,000 liters (2,400 gallons) of water per day, the Solar UFOs will be deployed in Tokyo-area waters sometime down the road.
