Hard drive clock

Isn’t it great to be a DIY enthusiast? You’re always on the lookout for something new to do with old stuff, and the hard drive clock is one of them thanks to Polish modder mb1988 who ensured this hard drive clock is a success thanks to the use of persistence-of-vision (POV) illusion which results in phantom “hands” being displayed on the face of the spinning drive platter. Colorful LEDs will circle the platter (fooled us for the Google Chrome logo a while there), blinking rapidly to show off the current time on a slot that has been carefully cut into the face of the platter. An ATMEGA128 microcontroller runs within to make sure those lights blink in clockwork precision, while a remote control lets you change the colors and effects according to your liking.
