Netbook SSDs to receive standard connector

There is nothing quite like standards to keep everyone playing nice, and the SATA International Organization aims to change all that by rolling out a new standard for notebook and netbook manufacturers at the Intel Developer Forum in San Fransisco. The new standard is touted to be mini-SATA, or mSATA for short, where it will utilize a similar Mini PCI Express connector alongside existing PCIe SSDs. The standard is tipped to see action for 64GB and smaller SSDs. As for higher capacity SSDs, they will be similar in size to 1.8" or 2.5" hard drives. The mSATA standard is able to hit a theoretical transfer rate of up to 3Gb/s, and it is nice to know that Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Toshiba and STEC have already come to an agreement to support the standard.
