Kindle gets 85% more battery Life and PDF support
Posted on Nov 24, 09 11:52 AM PDT

Amazon has announced that it has a hardware update that will boost the battery life by 85% (with wireless 3G on). That translates in about 7 days instead of 4. The battery life for the sleep mode remains unchanged. Note that the first Kindle won’t benefit from the power management update…
The PDF support for Kindle and Kindle 2 (read our Kindle 2 review) is something that users were waiting anxiously (the Kindle DX had it all along). Now it is possible to copy PDF files over USB and use them as is. There is also the option of converting the PDFs to the Kindle format when sending an email, if you want). Note that PDF support is rather minimalist: it's not so easy to zoom, create bookmarks and the PDF files content can't be indexed (for search). We see this as a direct response to the competition induced by the B&N Nook (an “Uber10” gadget) and the Alex.
