Optical Mouse Detects Fake Euro Coins
Posted on Nov 17, 09 07:49 AM PDT

Do you think your mouse lacks features and can’t do anything more than jiggle your cursor? Well, if that’s the case, you could always team up with some of the Spanish engineers from the University of Lleida, who have modified an optical mouse to detect counterfeit 2 Euro coins. By placing the coin into a position device and rotated, the sensor will then capture the image and process it using a complex algorithm and you’ll get your answer fairly quick. Of course, the system can accept a webcam, but an optical mouse sensor is cheaper and smaller.
