NEC CE151 camera chip

NEC has unveiled a brand new camera chip which was specially optimized to be used in new cellphones, turning the integrated cameras into performance monsters that are more or less equal to that of DSLRs. We find that hard to believe at first, but we suppose it is only a matter of time before technology advances to such a state that everything inside a DSLR can be shrunk into a tiny chip for use in other mobile devices. Well, the NEC CE151 is capable of recording video in full High Definition, not to mention shooting still images of up to 13-megapixels. Other features include the ability to output full HD video streams, an easy-to-use API, being backwards compatible with earlier NEC CE chips, a noise-reduction function which helps minimize lens distortion and a reduced energy consumption level. No idea on when will be the earliest where we see the NEC CE151 camera chips in action, but the sooner the better as with any other new technology, right?
