SnapStream DVR Records 50 channels simultaneously

SnapStream is talking about its new DVR appliance that can record up to 50 channels simultaneously onto 100TB worth of storage capacity. SnapStream is also writing the software to control that monster (they used to be my favorite Media Center system because they could record in DivX). This is equivalent to 326 Tivo Premier boxes, and it’s a closet-size box. In the back, a single coax cable is the input for all that video content. Arguably, the more interesting part is that SnapStream has tools to search the content. Their system is used by TV show production teams that need to find recent footage quickly. The Daily Show uses their tech, apparently. Ironically, it’s more channels than are available in most countries. Specs in the full posts.

  • 8 x Xeon Processors
  • 68 x 2TB Hard Drives
  • 136TB of disk space, 102TB of storage (after RAID setup)
  • Total Storage 24×7 Recording* 115,200 hours = ~13 Years
  • 96 Days of Storage Per Tuner
