Quantum dot lasers could offer 25Gbps in data communication

Fancy experiencing data transmission speeds of up to 25Gbps when it comes to your cellphone or mobile device? That could very well be possible in the future with new technology from Fujitsu and Tokyo University, hitting the fabled 25Gbps figure while relying on quantum dot lasers to get the work done. Just exactly what are quantum dot lasers? Well, it is the next generation of semiconductor lasers which offers high speed data transfer at considerably less power consumption. This new technology has a bright future in front of it, as researchers are looking for ways to use it as an optical source to achieve next-gen high speed data communication at a whopping 100Gbps.
