Rumor: AT&T And Apple Extend iPhone Deal

This is still far (very far) from anything official, but an analyst suspects that the reason AT&T is offering cheap connectivity deals for Apple’s iPad is that AT&T did so in exchange for an extension on its exclusivity on Apple’s popular iPhone. We were also reminded that the iPad’s data plans are on a prepaid basis, so there is no contract to tie you to AT&T, which is something that AT&T has never done with the iPhone. According to the analyst, we wouldn’t see a Verizon iPhone until the first quarter of 2011, which is still more than half a year away. Do you think that AT&T and Apple brokered such a deal, or are folks just speculating too much over the lack of a Verizon iPhone?
