TRENDnet Ships 450Mbps Wireless N TEW-691GR Router

Looking for a router that’s capable of faster network speeds to improve the wireless network in your home/office? TRENDnet has announced that it’ll begin to ship its TEW-691GR, the first 450Mbps Wireless-N Gigabit router on the market, as opposed to the existing 300Mbps that most Wireless-N routers use. To achieve these higher speeds, the router uses three antennas, each broadcasting in three spatial streams, offering a 450Mbps throughput. The TEW-691GR is a single-band router, only supporting the 2.4GHz band and if you want to fully take advantage of these improved speeds, you’ll need an adapter that supports the same three-stream standard, something that only Intel’s integrated 5300 wireless chip that is used in laptops supports at the moment. Of course, if you don’t have such a wireless receiver, you’re still able to use this router which is compatible with all existing 2.4GHz Wi-Fi clients. Aside from Wi-Fi, this router offers one gigabit WAN port, four gigabit LAN ports, WPS button, and will set you back $226.
