Jailbreaking, rooting of phones, DVD riping are now legit Stateside

Manufacturers of various devices won’t be too pleased to hear that the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), being the US copyright law, has been changed to protect the rights of content owners, making it now legal to make changes to your devices and software through various circumstances. This means you are able to jailbreak or root a phone legally in order to run software that’s prohibited by the manufacturer or wireless carrier, while decrypting DVDs to use them in short excerpts for educational, non-commerical or documentary purposes. Bear in mind that this piece of news doesn’t mean a slew of devices down the road will not feature any copy protection.
