HP webOS Tablet To Be Similar To The iPad?

We’ve been looking forward to a cool webOS-powered tablet device ever since HP acquired Palm and now an email from HP’s Peter Helm to the Palm Developer Community states that webOS will be used on tablet-style devices similar to the iPad. While it wasn’t an explicit reference that there will be a 9- or 10-inch webOS tablet, but some folks have already begun to speculate that it might be the case. Whatever it may be, we’re hoping that we’ll see a strong iPad competitor powered by webOS in 2011. A part of the email reads:

“Now that we are officially part of HP, we are going full speed ahead with our applications initiative. Our proprietary operating system, webOS, is now the OS that will be used in HP’s mobile devices. This includes mobile handsets as well as tablet-style devices similar to the iPad. We will accordingly leverage Palm’s ability to innovate and the scale of HP’s vast install base and distribution network previously unavailable to us.”
