PS3 3.50 Firmware Update Disables Unlicensed Sony PS3 Controllers

All might not be rosy with Sony’s latest 3.50 firmware update for the PS3 that enables support for Blu-ray 3D discs as many users who use unlicensed third-party PS3 controllers have found that the update caused the system to stop supporting said controllers. This might be related to an earlier consumer alert from Sony that warned users against using counterfeit PS3 wireless controllers and that such devices might cease to function in the future due to software updates. Some PS3 owners claim that some unlicensed third-party hardware still works, though you can be sure that this is going to end up as a bad bit of PR for Sony. The good news is that no third-party controllers that are licensed by Sony are reported to be affected.
