Windows Phone 7 requires hard reset when swapping SD memory cards

We know that there was a bunch of smartphones running on Windows Phone 7 when it was recently announced, but here’s something on the hardware that you might want to be aware of before taking the plunge. It seems that Microsoft Windows Phone 7 handsets will allow for swapping of SD memory cards, although you will need to perform a hard reset in order for it to work just fine. According to Microsoft, “Windows Phone uses a special high–performance SD card that works differently than SD cards in other devices. When your phone is built and first set up, its internal storage and SD card are combined and recognized as one storage system. You should not remove the SD card in your phone or replace it with a new one because your Windows Phone won’t work properly. Existing data on the phone may be lost, and that SD card can’t be used in other devices or Windows Phones.” Hmmm, not too shabby, considering most Windows Phone 7 handsets will feature at least 8GB or 16GB of internal memory to help you get off on the right foot, but that might not be enough for power users.
