After Apple had acquired HP’s former Cupertino campus, Apple is looking towards Norman Foster to design a modern, eco-friendly campus that will embody Apple’s design philosophies. Foster, famous for designing the zero-carbon Masdar City in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, will now design the “City of Apple.” In regards to Masdar, Foster says:
“Designing a zero-carbon, zero-waste city is more than a challenge but, as a believer in visionary architecture, Foster likes challenges. Following in the footsteps of Buckminster Fuller, he believes in car-less cities where people get around using means of transport that others would see as the stuff of science fiction.”
The City of Apple will comprise of 150 acres of commercial real estate property and is said to have an environmentally friendly design approach that will “incorporate cutting-edge technology in materials and equipment as well as renewable energy resources.” Pathways between building will occur underground to keep as much of the surface green as possible.
