Chicago plans a network of Surveillance Cameras
2000 cameras are going to be connected to a 911 center. When a 911 call is made, the system will automaticaly create a video link, using the nearest camera from the emergency scene. The emergency authorities can (hopefuly) do an accessement of the situation by themselves, in addition of the information provided by the caller. The network is also equipped with software that will alert the center if anyone is "seen" in a sensitive place, such as a Water Plant. Not surprisingly, there's a number of citizens very concerned about privacy issues. Of course, the more means there are, the more potential abuses there are...
