Home > General > LG Philips lays claim to biggest OLED display : 20.1"

OLED displays are currently used in small devices such as mobile phones or PDAs, because they are still very difficult to produce, especially in large sizes.

LG Philips just took the OLED crown (Organic Light Emitting Diode) by demonstrating a 20.1″ screen.
(resolution: 1600×1200)

OLED screen promises to be cheaper (yeah, not anytime soon), more shock resistant, brighter, higher-resolution and less power hungry than current LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) devices.

However, the OLED technology still faces many issues. For one, the screen does not have a long life time. The previous generation could run for 10,000hours. It’s great for a PDA, so not good for a screen. Progresses are being made on this front.
