 Gamer buys $26,500 virtual landA 22 year old gamer blew $26500 to buy an island that exists only in a computer role playing game (RPG). He bought it at an online auction.

The game (“Project Entropia”) allows gamers to buy and sell virtual items using real money. Economists estimate that the GDP of the game is equivalent to the one of Namibia (Africa).

Several other games, such as the popular “Everquest” have sparked entire ecosystems, but that’s the first time that I hear about such a large sum of money.

The funny thing: one day, the game company will release a 2.0 version and chances are that player might restart from scratch.
