The merged company is going to use the CDMA protocol as the technology foundation. It is believed that the merger could save up to $12B by running a unified network.
In the meantime, and until 2007, the iDEN protocol used by Nextel will remain in place. Motorola will build a phone that is capable of working on CDMA & iDEN.
