First, a lot of troubles can get to you via your web browser. Internet Explorer (IE) is the main target of all virus makers because it represents 90% or so of the market share. You can try to use Firefox. I am very happy with it. Don’t open emails with attachments from people that you don’t know, use a secondary email account (like hotmail) to subscribe to services online to redirect future spamming there. Obviously, get an anti-virus (Symantec or mcafee) Finally, backup-up your data you probably have gigabytes of stuff, imagine what it would be to loose it all… Get a one-touch backup drive, if you’re lazy. |

I’m just throwing this out there, but the virus activity level seems to have gone up big time in 2004. May be your should think about taking simple steps to keep them away from your computer. Paying a little bit of attention can avoid big problems.
