Bill gates announces a security push and a new Internet Explorer

Bill Gates himself has confirmed that a new version of Internet Explorer that addresses more security issues was in the works, after Microsoft claimed for months that no new web browser would be created before the next windows, codenamed Longhorn.

The new browser, Internet Explorer 7.0, would require that Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is installed on your system. It’s a windows update that is freely available on Microsoft’s website.

I’m not surprised that Microsoft is reacting to these security issues and to the rise of Firefox. After all Firefox has just revealed what users want: A faster browser, Tabbed browsing and less security holes. One way or another, Microsoft will have to provide that, or loose market share. Personally, my top item is speed. I can’t believe how slow I.E is. Apparently the new Opera browser is even faster than Firefox…
