Mitsubishi Electric Corp. announced the world’s first scanner that reads fingerprint without touching the skin. The new device uses the LED, a red light-emitting diode to read fingerprints under the surface of the skin, the usual fingerprints scanners do it using physical contact on a glass plate.But the regular systems are inefficient when the skin is damaged, wrinkled or covered with perspiration.
With the new Mitsubishi system, the person places a finger nails up, the device scans through the finger and analyzes the patterns of the skin layer below the surface.
Financial institutions and airport are expecting this new toy to enhance the security especially regarding thefts of personal data.
It will be priced at about 100,000 yen or less (about $900).
