Rumor: Sony PSP with a 50 GB Hard Drive?

A PSP with a 50GB Hard Drive by 2006?

Joystiq heard about this rumor during the “Positioning for Profitability in the Video Game Economy” conference.

Sony will cost-reduce the PSP for the whole lifetime of the console, and part of cost-reducing means making everything inside smaller, merging chips together and so on.

The side effect could be that enough room would be made for integrating a 1.8-inch hard drive (iPod-style), although, looking at the PSP in my hand, I realize that this would still be a challenge.

Would this make it an iPod killer? I think that it would make it a Portable Media Player (PMP) Killer, but not necessarily an iPod killer, just because of the form factor. Anyways, I hope that the rumor is true, because I want to upload stuff on the PSP!
