After the success of the D70 model, Nikon is going after the lower segment of the market with its Nikon D50 Digital SLR camera. It is a 6.1 Megapixel camera that is smaller and lighter than the D70. Nikon has also simplified a bit the controls to make it easier for non-experts to use it.
Many companies are developing their SLR line of products because the margins are so much higher, thanks to a less competitive market, compared to the compact digital cameras. These SLR cameras are really much better than compact ones, that have the same Megapixel count. Press Release.
