Ubergizmo in Japan: Casio GzOne Type-R launch event at KDDI
The cellphone stayed in the aquarium during most of the presentation.

Ubergizmo was attending the launch of the Casio GzOne Type-R by KDDI (a wireless carrier) in their design center in Tokyo. The presenters went straight to the point:

They first demonstrated the resistance of the device to water by throwing it in an aquarium, then explained to the press what concept was behind the (very nice) design and finally did a demonstration of toughness by letting the cellphone fall on the hardwood floors from about 1.5 meters high.

Obviously, the phone still worked perfectly after all this abuse. That was really cool. More photos of the event below.

This is a demonstration of shock-resistance. In all, she must have dropped the phone four or five times to let people take photos

But in the end, the Casio GzOne Type-R ran perfectly, even after the repeated shocks.

This was a very interesting demonstration. While it’s tempting to think that only people doing Extreme Sports would be interested, it couldn’t be farther from the reality: this phone is cool for urban life where you actually have access to the wireless network.

I’m sure that you would like to see close-up shots and all, so the good news is: we will publish them. The bad news is: it’s going to be later today.
