Honda FCX
via Gizmag

Honda’s hydrogen fuel cell-powered 2005 FCX vehicles have been equipped with a specially developed navigation system. Seriously, how many stations do you know of are hydrogen service stations? This brand new navigation system is the world’s first that incorporates the location of all hydrogen stations, mostly in California. Those out of that state are out of luck, as at present the database have listed a mere 26 hydrogen stations, where 17 of them reside in California.

Voice-activated system is standard on all second generation FCX vehicles that come equipped with Honda’s fuel cell stack. You navigate through the menu using voice commands, and one can lump directions and driving systems into the equation as well. National US navigation coverage is included, and users can add stations into the in-built personal address book as more of them pop up. Rest assured that periodic updates from Honda will be made available to customers.

The Honda FCX is the first and only hydrogen vehicle that was certified by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California’s Air Resources Board (CARB). The Honda FCX is certified as a Tier-2 Bin 1 by the EPA while CARB classified it as a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV). In a list of firsts, the FCX was also the first fuel cell vehicle to be listed in the EPA’s Fuel Economy Guide in 2003. The 2005 FCX version has a city/highway rating of 62/51 miles per kilogram and a range of 190 miles, and is able to start and operate at temperatures as low as -4 degrees Farenheit.

Publisher’s note: “New navigation system that contains the Hydrogen service stations locations”. That sounds like Points Of Interests (POIs) to me… not quite an innovation. Some applications even let users do their own, and with 26 stations in California, I would not be surprised if I see thise list of POIs popping up in other navigation systems…
