Pantech announced the launch of Korea’s first smartphone, the PH-S8000T. The Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition-equipped phone was developed under close supervision with Intel and Microsoft, and it runs on an Intel Mobile Processor. The initial target market that Pantech is looking into are mobile professionals, those who fall under the categories of “knowledge workers” and multimedia entertainment enthusiasts.
Pantech Co. Ltd President & CEO, Sung-Kyu Lee, said: “The world class functionality in the PH-S8000T means that users will be able to access a vast range of applications, which will significantly add to their professional and personal lives. Effectively, having the PH-S8000T will be just like having a computer in your hand.”
With the Internet Explorer Mobile Version, users can surf the Internet using the handset. Synchronization between the device and PC is performed via Microsoft’s ActiveSync system. You can also integrate data with Microsoft Outlook in order to share, edit, and update information on both PC and phone.
A 1.3 mega-pixel camera on the PH-S8000T is standard these days, and is able to capture moving images as well. It also comes with 64–polyphonic ringing tones, photo called ID, MP3 playback capability, and VOD.
Being Korea’s second largest producer of cell phones after Samsung in Korea, Pantech has been aggressively expanding its product portfolio recently in order to capture a bigger slice of the market. Future releases will see handsets that have digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) and Bluetooth capabilities.
