Toyota cars smart enough to call for help automatically

Toyota cars can now communicate with cell phones via a Bluetooth connection. The said car must be GPS ready (a norm in Japan) in order to work with a compatible handset. Toyota’s G-Book system is capable of using a cellphone to call an ambulance upon an airbag’s deployment, play karaoke songs, or send an SMS when the car door is unlocked. This service is compatible with a list of Toyota’s business partners. Those who prefer to stick to their own service provider will need to connect both car and phone via a wire.

The Bluetooth route works the same way sans wires, and is activated the moment the car is turned on. Currently available in Japan, Toyota plans to bring this service to North America and Europe soon.
