HP, previous proponent of Sony’s Blu-ray format has switched to the HD-DVD camp. The company cites the unreasonable cost that they bear to support the Blu-ray format as the main factor for their change of mind. It costs $30 per PC drive for Blue-ray royalties. The Java-based Blu-ray format royalties include licensing the GEM standard, the cost of a Java test kit and BD Java. Via Technology Blog
