The Cyberman GVD510 is a stereoscopic display that, combined with the right games, might offer an immersive experience. The microdisplay runs at a resolution of 640×480 which doesn’t sound impressive, but it’s not bad for this type of head mounted display. These glasses are designed to be equivalent to watching a 40” flat panel at seven feet.
Even though the words “Virtual Reality” are used in the Press Release, don’t expect any head tracking. Another “hip” sentence that I noticed in there was “built with nanotechnology”. Interestingly enough, any electronic chip is built with “nano-technology”, so in this context, it doesn’t mean much.
The Military has given up its Virtual Reality hopes a while ago because even the fastest computers and displays are not fast enough to avoid the dizziness caused by the lag between what the body senses and what the eyes are seeing though the display during Virtual Reality simulations.
