The backlight system of the LG 47LB1DRB is using LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights, instead of the cold-cathode used in many LCD displays. Usually LED lights are used in small displays. As the size grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to integrate them. LG has managed to do it and in theory, LED Backlighting should bring the following advantages: longer life, higher brightness and possibly a thinner package, although this model uses an array of LED, which could consume more power than regular LCDs. Other manufacturers were also using this technique.
