The US Navy is currently conducting field tests on a new short-range communications device that will allow sailors to hold secure conversations up to 2 miles away by just looking at each other. Dubbed LightSpeed, the device uses infrared signals to transmit audio and visual information. Signals are amplified via optical lenses and decoded on the receiving end. Low-powered and extremely hard to pick up, this form of communication could prove vital on the battlefield. Via Wired
