A team of researchers at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) is currently hard at work developing a nano-sized battery that can be implanted in the eye to power an artificial retina. These bio-batteries will work in tandem with artificial retinas in order to correct a select amount of macular degeneration, one of the 2 causes of blindness. Currently, the implant can only offer minimal vision restoration but future developments are hoped to offer sight to the blind one day. Via Primidi
