Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD Disc Player

Toshiba had a theater to demonstrate the quality of HD-DVD. Obviously they also had a player: the HD-A1 is a 720p/1080i HD-DVD player (no 1080p, Argh). It is quite thick (approximately 80mm high, looking at the cooling fan), a little bit like what DVD players were a while ago. It connects to your HDTV via HDMI (preferred), RGB Components (not bad) or Standard Component Video and S-Video (what’s the point in having a HD player then?). When playing Standard Definition (SD) DVDs, the Toshiba HD A1 will upscale the image to make it look good on a HDTV. There will be at least two models priced at $499 (HD-A1) and $799 (HDX-A1) available in March 2006 and users will have 30 HD movies available at launch time. That number will grow to 200 by the end of the year. Specs in the full post. HD-A1
