Apple’s recent patent applications point toward the development of its own Origami UMPC device. As you can see from the pictures, they look like a variation of Microsoft’s Touchpack software save for the single arc QWERTY keyboard. An earlier patent filed in February describes it as “Gestures for touch sensitive input devices”. The device’s cosmetics and size resemble the Origami UMPC, and we are sure that Apple will be able to create a better UMPC interface. Imagine a multipoint sensing device that allows image manipulation via several fingers. With the flurry of patent applications, it is safe to say that Apple is taking the UMPC market seriously.
