The PlayStation 3 is expected to cost around 500 Euros according to Sony Computer Entertainment’s French president George Fornay. Consumers will balk at such a high price, but Fornay defended the PS3 by highlighting the inclusion of Blu-Ray and HD functionalities which are offered at a higher price point for other devices. The U.S. price will most probably be in the region of $500 due to the absence of a local sales tax unlike in Europe, although that price will still make it the most expensive console in the market during launch. Are consumers ready to cough up such a large sum of money for first adopter privileges, or will they rather purchase an Xbox 360 or Revolution with cash left over for games?
