Looks like everything is getting smarter around us, from phones to homes and now, even shirts. The SmartShirt from Sensatex is a cotton t-shirt with sensors within the fabric that monitors the wearer’s vital statistics like body temperature, heart rate, and movement. Funded by the U.S. military and 5 years in development, the SmartShirt contains a micro controller within that transmits digitized signals to a remote back-end system via a wireless connection for real-time monitoring. Practical applications include monitoring patients with chronic illnesses, the elderly, babies suspected to suffer from high risk SIDS, and even emergency service workers.
